Going to Gulangyu Island
Gulangyu Island is one not to miss and is the largest of all the islands of Xiamen. The roads on the island are winding and give Gulangyu a lot of character. Try and come here for an entire day and take a walk along the long perimteter trail, which is around 2.5 miles in length. There are many magnificent colonial houses on mansions on this island. Some very famous Chinese musicians hae grown up here and interestingly, it often goes by the name of the 'Island of Pianos' because something like one tenth of all houses have a piano. Regular ferry rides are cheap and getting here is quite a pleasant and scenic journey.
